Pauls Fire of Faith

“Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and… laid it on the fire.”
—Acts 28:3 (NKJV)

Shipwrecked. Cold. Soaked by the rain. That’s where Paul was when he chose to build a fire—not after the storm passed, but right in the middle of it. This wasn’t just about staying warm—it was a prophetic act of faith. The fire represented more than survival; it symbolized the power of God’s presence in dark and desperate places. In the middle of chaos, Paul chose to cultivate what fire offers: light in darkness, warmth in the cold, and a signal that God is still near.

Dont Wait for the Calm

Is it true that many of us wait until conditions improve before seeking God? We think, “I’ll get back to worship when I’m less overwhelmed,” or “I’ll rebuild once things settle down.” But what if fire is the very thing we need now? Fire brings clarity in the fog. It brings warmth in the cold. It gathers others who are lost and searching.

Worship in the Middle of Chaos

In your storm, don’t wait. Build a fire—not just of comfort, but of God’s presence. His presence is the flame that drives out fear, warms the coldest heart, and brings light to confusion. Just like fire, His presence refines, illuminates, and attracts. When you choose to worship, pray, and seek Him in the middle of the chaos, you’re not just surviving—you’re inviting His power to fill the moment. The fire you build becomes a manifestation of His nearness, a tangible expression of hope that not only sustains you but draws others in. So don’t wait for calm—ignite His presence now.

Closing Prayer

God, I might feel shipwrecked, but I’m choosing to build a fire. I trust You to meet me right here in the middle of the storm. Teach me to worship before the breakthrough. Use this fire to light my heart and lead others home. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What storm or difficulty are you walking through right now?
  2. What are some ways you can “gather wood” and seek God’s presence in the chaos?
  3. Who else might be drawn to the fire you build?
