When Your Faith is Tested
In Mark 5, Jairus faces a heartbreaking situation. While Jesus was healing another, Jairus received the devastating news that his daughter had died. Imagine the weight of that moment—the crushing realization that while others were receiving their miracles, his own greatest need seemed overlooked. How often do we find ourselves in similar situations, feeling like what is most important to us isn’t important to God? We watch others experience healing, restoration, and success, while we stand on the sidelines, wondering if God will ever turn His attention to us. We may even begin to wonder if He has forgotten us entirely.
Feeling Over Looked in God’s Timing
In these moments, a voice whispers, “It’s too late.” This voice tries to convince us that our situation is beyond repair, that our children, our marriages, or even our very selves are beyond hope. The enemy wants us to believe that it’s no use to keep seeking God—that there’s no point in bothering the Master any longer.
The Whisper of Hopelessness
At this critical juncture, Jairus is presented with several narratives:
– The narrative of reality: His daughter is dead.
– The narrative of man: “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”
– The narrative of the enemy: “It’s too late.”
– The narrative of Jesus: “Do not be afraid; ONLY BELIEVE.”
Choosing God’s Narrative
All these narratives are laid out before Jairus, and he must choose which one to align himself with. The same is true for us. We must learn to contend for the voice of God, to silence the voices of the enemy, and to recognize that any voice that isn’t God’s voice is not for us.
The question becomes: How long will you waver between two opinions? (1 Kings 18) Will you choose to believe the narrative of your circumstances, or will you stand firm in the narrative that Jesus offers—the one that says, “ONLY BELIEVE”?
Challenge Question:
- Which narrative are you currently aligning yourself with? Are you listening to the voice of doubt and despair, or are you holding fast to the promises of God?
- How do you handle the moments when it feels like God is paying more attention to others? Are you tempted to give up, or do you continue to seek Him, trusting that His timing is perfect?
- What steps can you take to silence the voice of the enemy in your life? How can you strengthen your ability to hear and trust God’s voice above all others?
Let’s Pray
Father, in the moments when we feel overlooked and forgotten, help us to choose Your narrative above all others. Give us the strength to silence the voices of doubt, fear, and despair. Teach us to contend for Your voice and to trust in Your perfect timing. May we align ourselves with Your promises, knowing that You are always working for our good, even when we cannot see it. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
