Saying “Yes” Before You Know the Plan
Faith often calls us to say “yes” before we know the plan. The things we cannot see, the things that feel like bad timing, or the things that seem impossible are often the ones we doubt the most. In those moments, we ask, pray, and seek signs—anything to reassure us. And while God is gracious to provide confirmations, is this truly faith? More specifically, is it blind faith?
Seeking the Plan
I was recently reminded of this in a profound way. A pastor I deeply respect gave me a prophetic word that resonated with my spirit but left me deeply conflicted. I spent three days praying and seeking counsel, trying to figure out how this word could possibly come to pass. In a moment of worship, while pleading for a strategy, God whispered, “You keep asking Me for the plan when you haven’t even given Me your ‘yes.’”
Trusting Before We See the Whole Picture
I realized I was so focused on how the waters would part that I hadn’t even agreed to step into them. This moment reminded me of Mary’s response to the angel Gabriel when he told her she would bear the Son of God:
Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” – Luke 1:38
Mary’s Faith: Saying “Yes” Without Knowing the Plan
The Voice translation captures her heart beautifully:
“Here I am, the Lord’s humble servant. As you have said, let it be done to me.” – Luke 1:38
Mary made her decision in faith, saying “yes” before she understood the fullness of what God was asking of her. The angel didn’t give her detailed plans—only that the power of God would come upon her, and the Holy Spirit would overshadow her (Luke 1:35). For Mary, that was enough.
The True Nature of Faith
How often do we hesitate because we want the full plan before we say yes to God? We rely on signs and confirmations, but that isn’t really faith, is it? True faith trusts the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to guide us through the unknown, even when we can’t see how things will work out.

- Are you waiting for a plan or more confirmation before giving God your wholehearted “yes”? What might be holding you back?
- How can you practice trusting the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to walk you through the unknown?
- What would it look like for you to say, “Here I am, Lord; let it be to me according to Your word,” in your current situation?
Take a moment today to surrender your need for answers and simply offer God your “yes.” Trust that He will part the waters when the time comes, but until then, let faith be enough.
