Be Still and Know
“Be still, and know that I am God.”—Psalm 46:10 NKJV
We live in a culture of constant motion—schedules, scrolling, striving. Stillness can feel unnatural or unproductive. But spiritual stillness isn’t laziness; it’s surrender. It’s the choice to cease from our efforts and allow God to act on our behalf.
Stillness: The Soil Where Trust Grows
Stillness is the soil in which trust grows. It is in stillness that we create space to recognize His presence, hear His voice, and remember who He is. To be still is to stop striving long enough to realize that He is sovereign, faithful, and near. It’s not about doing nothing—it’s about doing the most important thing: acknowledging God. In the quiet, distractions fade, and clarity comes. You begin to know Him, not just in theory, but in experience.
Experiencing God in the Quite
God doesn’t need your hustle—He longs for your attention. He desires a still heart, one that is quiet enough to hear Him and open enough to trust Him. Are you moving so fast that you’re missing His nearness? What might shift in your life if you simply paused, made space, and let Him reveal Himself to you?
Closing Prayer
Father, I confess I often run ahead of You, trying to make things happen. Teach me to be still and trust in Your timing, Your strength, and Your wisdom. Quiet my anxious heart so I can know You more deeply. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Reflection Questions:
- What distractions or habits keep you from spiritual stillness?
- When was the last time you truly waited on God without striving?
- How can you carve out space this week for stillness with God?
